A CHARTER ORDINANCE AMENDING CHARTER ORDINANCE NO. 3 OF THE CITY OF GARDEN PLAIN, KANSAS REGARDING THE ELECTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE GOVERNING BODY OF THE CITY OF GARDEN PLAIN, KANSAS;
SECTION 1. Section IV of Charter Ordinance No. 3 shall be amended as follows:
Beginning at the April, 2001 election for mayor and three councilmembers, the two candidates for city council receiving the first and second highest number of votes at said election shall hold their respective offices for a term of two years. The candidate for city council receiving the third highest number of votes at said election shall hold office for a term of one year.
In the election of April, 2002, there will be three city council seats up for election. The three candidates for city council receiving the highest number of votes at said election shall be elected and hold office for a term of two years.
Thereafter, in all odd numbered years, there will be the mayor’s seat and two council seats up for election. In all even numbered years, there will be three council seats up for election. Said election of city councilmembers will be held annually as their terms expire with the candidates receiving the highest number of votes being elected for a term of two years, and until their successors are elected and qualified.
